Finding a postnatal personal trainer in Sydney CBD who genuinely understands the physiological demands of pregnancy and postpartum recovery can be difficult, but SOMA is built differently.

Our coaches hold pre and postnatal training certification, and our lead specialists, Ellie and Jade, bring years of dedicated experience with women's health and postpartum fitness. If you're also working through an injury or postural issues from pregnancy, our injury rehabilitation personal trainers can run alongside your postnatal program.

We work with women through every stage: training safely through pregnancy, recovering effectively after birth, and rebuilding strength on a timeline that works for your body.

Prenatal and Postnatal Training: What's Different, and Why It Matters

training_2

Four distinct phases, each with its own priorities. Your program is timed to where you are, not to a calendar.

Prenatal — safe exercise throughout pregnancy

Maintains strength and mobility while adapting every exercise for the changes your body is going through. Focus on core stability, pelvic floor support, and low-impact movement that keeps you active safely through each trimester.

Postnatal recovery — rebuilding after birth

Postpartum training is about rebuilding from the ground up. We address pelvic floor recovery, diastasis recti awareness, posture, and gradually restoring full-body strength. Every program is timed to where you are in recovery, not a calendar.

Strength & conditioning — long-term postpartum fitness

Once foundational recovery is established, we build a full strength program. Body composition, energy management, and sustainable fitness habits that fit into life with a newborn or young child.

Nutrition support — nutrition guidance for new mothers

Jade brings dedicated expertise in postnatal nutrition alongside training. Managing energy, supporting recovery, and building a sustainable approach to eating through the postpartum period is part of how we work.

As a busy executive, I need a gym that works around my schedule and delivers results. SOMA does exactly that. The limited membership means it's never crowded, and the trainers are genuinely world-class. The recovery centre is an absolute game-changer.

The reformer Pilates classes are outstanding small groups, incredible instructors, and the most beautiful studio space. I also love that the sauna and cold plunge are included. SOMA has completely changed how I approach fitness and recovery.

Pre and Postnatal Training in Sydney: Your Questions Answered

Can't find the answer you're looking for? We're happy to talk through where you are in your pregnancy or recovery.

  • Yes, for most women with a low-risk pregnancy, exercise is safe and beneficial. The key is working with a trainer who holds pre and postnatal certification and understands how to modify exercises through each trimester. All SOMA trainers are certified to this standard, and we always recommend checking with your obstetrician or midwife before beginning any new training program during pregnancy.

  • This varies significantly depending on the type of birth, any complications, and your individual recovery. As a general guide, light movement can often begin within a few weeks, with structured strength training typically starting from six to twelve weeks post-birth. We follow your medical clearance and adjust the program to match where you are in recovery.

  • A pre and postnatal certified PT has completed specific training covering the physiological changes of pregnancy and postpartum recovery, safe and unsafe exercises for each stage, pelvic floor function, diastasis recti, and how to adapt programming accordingly. At SOMA, this certification is held by every trainer on the floor.

  • Yes. Jade and Ellie lead SOMA's postnatal recovery and strength rebuilding programs. These are fully personalised, starting with an assessment of your current movement and recovery status and building progressively toward your goals, whether that's regaining strength, managing body composition, or simply moving and feeling better.

  • Yes. You don't need a training history to begin. Our initial consultation and movement assessment mean we understand your starting point before writing a single exercise. We work with complete beginners and experienced athletes alike, and every program is adjusted to your fitness level and how your pregnancy is progressing.
